University-English provides a free information service for those who are interested in English languages and literatures. It is the companion site ofThe Literary Encyclopedia and uses database technology with multiple-field indexing to enable users to find exactly the right set of contacts for their purposes. All our entries are designed to provide basic information about the agencies listed, and links to their own sites for further information.

We aim to help with such questions as: How to find a postgraduate programme on a particular topic? How to contact the appropriate editor at a known publishing house? How to find an appropriate association, conference or job in another country? The list of questions could be very long but we aim eventually to help solve them all.

University-English provides its services free of charge but it does require users to register. If you wish to join our mailing list for news about jobs, conferences and other events, and new publications in your special area of interest, please complete profiles of your interests when invited to do so during the registration process.

The Literary Encyclopedia is an expanding global literary reference work written by over 1500 specialists from universities around the world, and currently provides over 3900 authoritative profiles of authors, works and literary and historical topics. We will publish at least 800 new profiles (1.6m words) in 2007. We also list nearly 19,000 works by date, country and genre, and provide advanced software tools. The Literary Encyclopedia is built on historical principles, which means that all our data can be arrayed by date, country, genre, and so on, so that readers can explore writing in its historical context. Membership costs only $18.95 for a full year (circa £10.00 or € 14.50) and helps us to build this valuable resource.
